Wildcats can end two streaks tomorrow night

I’m sure you have heard by now that Kentucky hasn’t defeated Florida since 1986. The Wildcats will aim to end thirty consecutive years of losing to their SEC Eastern division foe, but they can also end an even longer streak.

Following last Saturday’s victory in South Carolina, Kentucky moved to 1-0 in SEC play. The Wildcats will look to move to 2-0 in conference play tomorrow night at Kroger Field. That would be history itself because the last time a UK team began SEC play 2-0 was forty years ago during the 1977 season.

In 1977, the Wildcats opened conference play with victories over Mississippi State and LSU. Kentucky finished SEC play with a perfect 6-0 record and an overall record of 10-1. Yet, they didn’t win the SEC due to NCAA probation.

The last time Kentucky won the SEC was 1976. They can move a step closer to ending that drought with a victory tomorrow night and in the process, can end an embarrassing thirty game losing streak to the Gators.
