LEXINGTON, Ky- John Calipari met with the media prior to Wednesday’s practice to preview the Wildcats upcoming trip to the Bahamas.

While most of the questions were about the current team, one reporter asked about recruiting without specifically naming a certain player. What Calipari said sure sounded like he was explaining the situation with D.J. Jeffries, who backed out of his commitment to Kentucky on Monday.

“I’m looking for guys who have always dreamed of playing at Kentucky”, said Calipari during Wednesday’s interview session. “This is really hard, and you have to want this as bad as we want you.”

“I’ve got to find out if they’re good enough. Because they may be 100,000 of those but there are only three or four that are good enough to really be here to make that work. But if we look at those guys first, and then again you have to have a great faith in your own ability and confidence that you’re not – like I don’t promise anybody that they’ll start and play. Like, how much you’re going to shoot the ball. I just don’t do it with anybody, which some kids need that and that’s OK.

Jeffries father, Corey Jeffries, stirred things up on Tuesday with comments he made on multiple radio and TV shows, calling Kentucky’s staff “unprofessional.” Calipari can’t specifically mention a recruit by name, but it sounded like he was describing what happened with Jeffries.
