UK Fan Saved Drowning Woman at St Augustine Beach

Big Blue Nation is everywhere.

You will be somewhere on vacation, miles away from your Kentucky home, and see someone wearing Kentucky gear. It happens all the time.

Well, that’s the first thing I noticed in a story going viral on social media.

First Coast News posted a story Wednesday, identifying a “mystery man” who saved a women from drowning at St. Augustine Beach last Saturday.

The article states that a women got caught in strong currents and was being pulled out to sea. That’s when the mystery man, who has since been identified as Rod Boothe, jumped in and pulled the women from the water.

Thankfully, two nurses nearby were able to perform CPR and save the women’s life.

Boothe, who is wearing a UK hat in the image he submitted to First Coast, confirmed his identity when he saw the news report that the family wanted to thank him.

After doing some research, Boothe is a former Kentucky football player living in Atlanta, Georgia. According to his Facebook account, Boothe graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1992.

Multiple readers reached out to inform us that Rod was a member of the Kentucky football team from 1989-1991, but there isn’t much information or an official roster online from those years.
