The Exact Moment that John Calipari Realized he wanted Tyrese Maxey at UK

The 2018-19 Kentucky basketball team is set and ready to go now that Ashton Hagans and Reid Travis have officially enrolled for summer classes. Now, the recruiting attention moves to the 2019 class, where John Calipari is already off to a great start.

The first 2019 UK commit was four-star forward D.J. Jeffries, who committed to Kentucky in March. Jeffries ability to play multiple positions is important for the makeup of the 2019 class, but the Wildcats biggest recruiting splash came in May when Tyrese Maxey announced his commitment to Kentucky.

The five-star combo guard will make his impact felt before he ever steps foot inside Rupp Arena. Multiple UK targets have already stated how much fun it would be to play with Maxey and it’s easy to see why. The Garland, Texas native is full of energy on the floor and he’s never scared of the moment.

The perfect example is in the highlight video below. Maxey drills a long three-point jumper that should’ve also been a four point play attempt after contact. John Calipari was sitting along the court with assistant coach Tony Barbee and all he could was smile and shake his head. The look on Calipari’s face says all you need to know about how he feels about Maxey.
