When Kentucky has needed him most, freshman guard Tyrese Maxey has stepped up on the biggest stages this season.

The freshman guard scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-5 three-point range.

Maxey’s 27 points are the most against the Cardinals since Jodie Meeks scored 28 in a 74-71 loss to Louisville in January of 2009.

The Garland, Texas, native was named MVP of the UK/Louisville game by Bluegrass Sports Commission following the game.

Maxey seems to rise to the occasion in the biggest games of the season. His previous career high was a 26-point performance vs. No. 1 Michigan State in the season opener at Madison Square Garden.

The win improved Kentucky to 9-3 on the season. The Wildcats will begin conference play next Saturday vs. Missouri at Rupp Arena.
