Tyler Herro Proved the Hype Around his Game is Real

When Tyler Herro signed with Kentucky last fall, fans couldn’t wait to get him on campus. Ten months later, he’s already showing he’s worth the hype.

Herro, a 6-foot-5, 192-pound shooting guard from Milwaukee, WI., turned in quite the performance in his unofficial Kentucky debut. Kentucky’s sharpshooting freshman finished with 16 points, three off Nick Richards team leading 19.

The most impressive thing about his game is his ability to score the basketball at all three levels on the floor. Most would’ve thought his first two points would be a three-point basket or a pull up jumper. However, Herro showed his athleticism with dunk in transition.

Herro knocked down 6-of-11 shots, in addition to converting all four of his free throw attempts.  When John Calipari was asked about Herro’s performance after the game, he said, “He made basketball plays.”

Kentucky’s 2018 recruiting class ranked second in the country behind Duke. In all, Calipari signed a total of four five-star prospects and Herro wasn’t one of them. Kentucky’s most steady freshman from the first game was it’s lowest rated prospect in the class, similar to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander last season (Jemarl Baker hasn’t played).

It’s early, but it appears Kentucky got a steal when Herro flipped from Wisconsin.
