Tyler Herro Pours in a Game-High 22 Points to Lead Kentucky to 91-68 Victory

The Kentucky Wildcats picked up their second win of the Big Blue Bahamas Tour with a 91-68 victory vs. San Lorenzo de Almagro on Thursday night.

The Wildcats were led by freshman guard Tyler Herro, who poured in a team high 22 points. In all, Herro has racked up 38 total points through the first two games of the week and he appears to be Kentucky’s best weapon on the offensive end of the floor.

On Wednesday, Herro flashed his ability to score from mid-range and at the rim. The former four-star guard decided to show it all in Thursday night’s win, as he scored at all three levels of the floor.

Herro’s 15 first half points helped Kentucky build a 45-27 halftime lead and they never looked back. Following his third three-pointer of the first half, the Atlantis resort had a power outage that delayed the game.

During his senior season of high school, Herro was snubbed of an appearance in the McDonald’s All-American game. Since then, he’s played with a different level of intensity and he’s took that same approach to his Kentucky jersey. Through two games, he’s connected on 13-of-21 field goal attempts and he knocked down 4-of-5 shots from three-point range in Thursday’s win.

“I know my teammates got my back,” Herro said after the game. “I feel like I’ve put in a lot of hours in my craft.”

Herro’s quick start has led to him being compared to some of the best to ever wear the blue and white, most notably Devin Booker, Rex Chapman, and Jeff Sheppard. John Calipari wants him to just be Tyler Herro and focus on his game.

“Rex thinks he’s the next Rex,” Calipari said on Wednesday. “But I just want him to be Tyler Herro. Be who you are. Rex was a high-flyer. Tyler can jump and do that, but Rex was unique and Rex ended up being special. Maybe in time that may be the case, but right now just let him be Tyler.
