Athlon Sports Ranks Terry Wilson 95th Among Expected Starting Quarterbacks

Mark Stoops isn’t close to naming a starter for the quarterback position, but Athlon Sports thinks it will be JUCO transfer Terry Wilson. However, he ranks low in their ranking of all 130 starting quarterbacks in the country.

Wilson comes in at No. 95 on the list, the worst ranking among SEC quarterbacks. Feleipe Franks from Florida is ranked one spot ahead at No. 94.

Wilson’s low ranking is a result of not being seen on the field. He has the talent and skillset to be successful, but he’s a newcomer to the SEC, which factored into his low ranking. This will provide him another reason to play with a chip on his shoulder.

On the other hand, Gunnar Hoak might take this as motivation to earn the starting quarterback position. Both have the tools to lead the UK offense, but they both do it in different ways.

Here’s what Athlon Sports had to say about Wilson.

With Stephen Johnson departing Lexington, the Wildcats have a two-man competition for the starting quarterback job this offseason. Wilson – a former Oregon and junior college recruit – is battling sophomore Gunnar Hoak for the top spot on the depth chart. Wilson ranked as ESPN’s No. 5 junior college recruit for the 2017 signing class and joined the team prior to spring ball. Wilson completed 10 of 24 throws for 131 yards and added 14 rushing yards on five attempts in the spring game.
