Kentucky’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Lands with the Clippers

Former Kentucky guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander heard his name called in the lottery of the 2018 NBA Draft. Gilgeous-Alexander was selected 11th overall by the Charlotte Hornets but was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

In the trade, the Hornets received the draft rights to Miles Bridges (12th pick) and two future second round picks. The Clippers received the draft rights to Gilgeous-Alexander (11th pick).

A second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection and SEC Tournament MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander exploded onto the scene during his freshman season at Kentucky.

One of the least heralded players of Kentucky’s 2017 recruiting class, SGA was believed to be a possible 3-4 year player. However, his work ethic led to him being Kentucky’s most consistent player during the 2017-18 season.

SGA led Kentucky in assists (189) and steals (61) while finishing second on the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. Additionally, he shot 40.3 percent from three-point range. He joins John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, Marquis Teague, and De’Aaron Fox as Calipari coached point guards from Kentucky to be drafted in the first round.
