Kentucky freshman guard Rhyne Howard has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Howard, a native of Cleveland, TN., averaged 22 points per game in victories vs. Alabama State and Southern University.

In her debut vs. Alabama State, Howard tallied 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals. She followed that performance with 29 points in a win vs. Southern, becoming the first UK freshman in four years to score 25 or more points in a game. Additionally, Howard connected on seven three pointers, tying the program record for the most made three-pointers in a single game.

Howard has provided instant production for Matthew Mitchell and she will be a big reason this team is successful moving forward. The Wildcats won both games by 50 or more points for the first time in program history.

Howard and the Wildcats will be back in action vs. Virginia at Rupp Arena on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
