Report: UK Hoping to Add Evansville Transfer DeAndre Williams Soon

John Calipari is close to completing the Kentucky men’s basketball roster for the 2020-21 college basketball season.

Sunday night, 2020 target Frank Anelelem removed Kentucky from his list of schools (first reported by David Sisk and Travis Graf of Cats Illustrated).  A significant factor in that decision was the addition of Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr to the Wildcats roster. The 7-foot center signed with Kentucky Wednesday.

As it stands, Kentucky will welcome nine new scholarship players to the program for 2020-21. Six of those incoming freshmen and three via the transfer portal. Calipari and Kentucky are close to wrapping things up, but there’s one more player they want.

Things are reportedly heating up between Kentucky and Evansville transfer DeAndre Williams, who added Kentucky to his list of schools last weekend.

KSR’s Jack Pilgrim reported Sunday night that the UK coaching staff is pushing to pick up a commitment from Williams soon, and his mentor, Kenny Roy, says a decision will come Sunday or Monday.

The 6-foot-9 forward will choose between Kentucky, Arkansas, Baylor, and Memphis when he makes his decision.

If Kentucky lands Williams, Calipari will have ten newcomers joining the program to play with Keion Brooks Jr. and Dontaie Allen, the only remaining scholarship players from the Wildcats 2019-20 roster.

Anselem cutting Kentucky from his list and things heating up with Williams on the same night pretty much tells the story. Kentucky gave themselves options, and they’re keying in on who they want to complete the roster. That player appears to be Williams.
