Reid Travis has Completely Changed his Body

Kentucky coach John Calipari took the podium on Thursday for his first press conference of the 2018-19 season.

Calipari discussed how practice is going for his team and one of the biggest topics was senior Reid Travis, who transferred from Stanford.

When Travis arrived during the summer, there was little time available to prepare him for the Big Blue Bahamas Tour in August. During the four game trip, Travis struggled to score through contact and length, something Calipari was determined to see him improve.

Calipari said Travis weighed 262-pounds when he arrived at Kentucky, twenty pounds heavier than he wants him to be when the season starts.

“He was a little bit heavy…I don’t want to say heavy,” said Calipari. “He was big boned.”

Travis now weighs 245-pounds and is jumping above the square in drills. At first, Calipari wanted him to lose five more pounds. However, he found out that his body fat percentage is 5.4 percent and joked that he would have to lose a kidney to drop five more pounds.

The fifth year senior will be a key piece to Kentucky’s pursuit of a ninth NCAA title. His experience and talent is something a Calipari coached Kentucky team hasn’t had.
