Quickley and Richards Focused on Winning, not SEC Player of the Year

Kentucky has two of the best players in the SEC in Immanuel Quickley and Nick Richards, who are candidates for SEC Player of the Year.

Kentucky launched the “Pick Nick” campaign last week for Richards to be named an All-American. The way Quickley has played, expect UK to fully endorse the “Pick Quick” campaign soon.

Both Wildcats are deserving of SEC Player of the Year when the award is announced after the season, but they have bigger goals than individual honors.

“There’s no competition,” said Quickley. “The ‘Pick Nick’ video was great, the ‘decent free throw shooter’ was funny. Nick’s been great this year, definitely an SEC Player of the Year contest for sure. He plays great for us so hopefully he can keep doing great stuff. It’s not my decision to have a video of my own like that so, I’d be just as happy for my team to win a national championship. That’s really what we’re trying to accomplish this season and try to continue to build as a team.”

Richards feels the same about the player of the year race and having a team full of guys that can makes plays is what is best for Kentucky.

“Honestly, we just go with the flow,” said Richards. “Whenever it’s our time to get buckets, make a play, or do something on the court, we just let it happen. You know we’re just out there trying to be good teammates to each other.”
