Kentucky sophomore forward PJ Washington has been named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Watch List for the 2019 Karl Malone Award.

The award honors the nation’s best power forward. Washington is one of 10 midseason candidates.

The Karl Malone Award, named after Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Karl Malone, will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in April. Washington would be the first Wildcat to win the award since it was first introduced in 2015.

Washington has played a vital role in the Wildcats recent winning streak that reached nine games with last Tuesday’s win vs. South Carolina.

Over the last five games, Washington is averaging 20.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He’s shooting 48.7 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from three-point range. Washington has also converted on 76.9 percent of his free throw attempts.
