Nick Richards’ Stats are in Elite Company

At this point, it’s time to stop being surprised when Nick Richards has a good game. In fact, it would be surprising if he had a bad game, that’s how well he’s playing.

The junior big man continued his strong play in Tuesday’s win vs. Georgia, where he totaled 20 points, 8 rebounds and three blocks.

The 20-point effort is the seventh consecutive game Richards has reached double figures, a stretch where he is averaging 16.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.

But just now good has Richards been this season?

Richards has put himself in elite company 18 games into the season. Last night was his third game of the season with at least 20 points, 8 rebounds and three blocks (Eastern Kentucky and Missouri).

During the John Calipari era, only one player has recorded more games of at least 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in a single season. Anthony Davis did it six times in 2011-2012. Terrence Jones also did it three times in 2010-2011, so it’s been a while.

The way Richards has been playing, there’s a chance he gets close to Davis.
