Mitchell Earns Co-Coach of the Year; Four Players Honored by Coaches

All-SEC honors for women’s basketball were announced Tuesday afternoon and the Kentucky Wildcats are all over the list. Matthew Mitchell, Maci Morris, Taylor Murray, Rhyne Howard, and Blair Green were all recognized for their achievements this season.

 

Mitchell was named SEC Co-Coach of the Year, his second Coach of the Year honor. He last won the award during the 2010 season. Mitchell is the eighth coach in league history to win the award multiple times.

 

Freshman guard Rhyne Howard was named SEC Freshman of the Year, the third player in program history to collect the honor. Additionally, Howard was named first team All-SEC, the first UK freshman to ever to be named All-SEC.

 



 

Senior guard Maci Morris was named first team All-SEC and SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, the third player under Mitchell to earn SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

 

Morris is averaging 15.1 points per game this season, while shooting a team best 44.7 percent from three-point range. She has reached double figures in 24 games, including eight games of 20 or more.

 

Freshman Blair Green was named to the SEC All-Freshman team after averaging 5.7 points per game. Green has been a consistent shooter in SEC play, hitting 47.9 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from long range.

 

Senior guard Taylor Murray was named to the SEC All-Defensive team to round out the honors for the Wildcats.
