Maryland Transfer Olivia Owens Chooses Kentucky

Matthew Mitchell continues to add talented pieces to the Kentucky women’s basketball program.

On Monday, Olivia Owens announced she is transferring to the University of Kentucky in a post to social media. “I trust the next chapter because I know the author,” Owens wrote on social media.

Owens, who spent the last two seasons at the University of Maryland, entered the transfer portal in March.

The next chapter will take place in Lexington after her announcement Monday. Kentucky hasn’t announced the addition of Owens yet, but that should come soon when the necessary paperwork is signed.

Owens, a 6-foot-4 center, appeared in 16 games as a freshman during the 2018-19 season, averaging 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds. She chose to redshirt during the 2019-20 season after missing the first couple of months with Mononucleosis.

Before her college career, Owens was ranked No. 26 by All-Star Girls Report and the No. 33 overall player and No. 5 Post by ESPN. She was a WBCA High School All-America Honorable Mention and a McDonald’s All-American nominee as a senior at Niskayuna High School in Niskayuna, New York.
