Mark Stoops is Back to .500 in his Kentucky Career

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Kentucky Wildcats closed the decade with a Belk Bowl victory vs. the Virginia Tech Hokies Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 37-30 win isn’t the biggest of Mark Stoops career but it’s another bowl victory vs. a successful football program.

The victory is the 44th of Stoops’ tenure at Kentucky, giving him an overall record of 44-44 in his seven seasons in Lexington. The stat is impressive, considering where Stoops was in 2016.

After the Wildcats dropped the first two games of that season to Southern Miss and Florida, Stoops was 12-26 overall.  Since then, Kentucky is 32-18 over the last fifty games.

The last time Stoops had a .500 record at Kentucky was through the first two games of his career. A win vs. Miami (Ohio) in 2013 gave Stoops a 1-1 record.

Now that he’s climbed back to .500 it will be interesting to see where this program goes. After back to back bowl championships, the best recruiting class in his time at UK and a lot of starters returning in 2020, Kentucky football is positioned to keep climbing.
