Kentucky junior guard Maci Morris scored her 1,000th career point during the first quarter of tonight’s game vs. Auburn.
The Bell County native entered Thursday night’s game needing just four points to achieve the milestone. With her second three-pointer of the first quarter, she became just the 33rd player in program history to reach 1,000 points for a career.
The Wildcats have struggled to sustain success as a team this season but that’s not been the case for Morris. The UK guard leads the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game. Additionally, Morris is posting a career-best in shooting (46.5%), three-point shooting (44.4%), and steals (23). She is also on pace to post new career highs in rebounds, assists, and blocks.
If Morris stays healthy, she has a chance to finish in the top ten in points scored in program history. Valerie Still, the schools leading scorer with 2,763 points and A’Dia Mathies with 2,014, are the only players to reach the 2,000 career points total.
