Morris Selected to Watch List for Naismith Trophy

Kentucky senior guard Maci Morris is one of 50 players tabbed to the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List for national player of the year honors. The list was announced on Monday.

The list will be trimmed to 30 on February 11th before being narrowed down to 10 national semifinalists on March 4th. Four finalists will be named on March 22nd and the winner will be announced on April 6th.

Morris, a 6-foot guard from Pineville, Ky., was named Preseason All-SEC First Team by league coaches prior to the season. Additionally, she was named to the 2019 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List, which is awarded to the best shooting guard in the country.

Fresh off a junior season where she averaged 17.3 points per game and ranked second in the nation in three-point percentage (47.5 percent), Morris is off to a solid start in her senior campaign. Morris scored 11 points in a win vs. Alabama State and 12 points in a victory vs. Southern University.

Morris will finish her UK career as one of the best to wear the blue and white. She now has 1,232 career points, which ranks 19th in program history. She has also connected on 182 career three-point attempts; good enough for third in program history. Morris needs 15 to tie Jennifer O’Neill for second in UK history.

Morris and the Wildcats will return to action on Thursday vs. Virginia at Rupp Arena. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. with coverage on the SEC Network.
