For the second time this week, a pitcher from New Jersey has committed to further his education and baseball career at the University of Kentucky. On Thursday, Alex Margot announced his commitment to Kentucky via his Twitter account.

Margot announced the commitment on Thursday, but UK assistant baseball coach Roland Fanning tweeted the following on Wednesday, which means the Wildcats have received a verbal commitment.

Margot is a 6-3, 195lbs LHP from Collingswood, NJ., where he attends Collingswood High School. He will join the Wildcats as a member of the 2019 recruiting class. Margot will follow the pitching route to Kentucky, but first base is listed as his secondary position. Margot’s fastball has topped out in the mid 80’s, but expect that to climb over the final two seasons of his high school career.

Earlier this summer, Margot checked in as the No. 19 sophomore in New Jersey, according to NJ.com. The Collingswood sophomore also made the All-Group 2 second team, which was announced in late June by NJ.com.

The left-hander has had a busy summer, participating in numerous events around the country. He competed in the 16U and 17U National Championships in Cartersville, GA., where he received All-Tournament honors for both events.

During the 17U event, Margot pitched 3.1 innings vs. the Houston Banditos, giving up one hit, while striking out five and walking one. The most recent event was the 16U National Championship, where Margot tossed 3.0 scoreless innings, giving up one hit while striking out four and walking one vs. the CBA Bulldogs.

Dating back to last year, his velocity on his fastball has increased from 78-82 mph to as high as 86 mph this summer, which has been well above the average fastball clocked at each event.

Season stats for Margot were not available while writing this article, but those will be listed as soon as they are provided. Big Blue Nation can follow the newest member of the family on Twitter @alex__margot.
