There’s just something special about when a Kentucky kid plays college basketball at the University of Kentucky but the Wildcats currently don’t have a scholarship player from the state of Kentucky on the roster. That could all change very soon, as John Calipari appears to be locked in on a talented prospect for the 2019 class.

Dekeyvan Tandy, a junior guard for Hopkinsville University Heights, unofficially visited Lexington for Kentucky’s 87-66 win vs. Missouri on February 24th. Calipari and assistant coach Joel Justus returned the favor with a visit to the second regional championship game Monday night.

Tandy made sure to leave a good impression on the UK coach, pouring in 33 points to lead his team to a 78-70 win over Christian County. Tandy and the Blazers will now advance to the KHSAA Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena, a place that could be his future home if Calipari decides to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer.

Tandy, a 6-1 guard, is averaging over 30 points per game on his way to leading University Heights to a 23-7 record. Tandy is currently ranked inside the 247 Sports top 150.

Calipari and Justus weren’t the only coaches in attendance. In the picture below, Saint Louis head coach Travis Ford and Jacksonville State head coach Ray Harper are seen in attendance. Tandy currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Florida, Iowa State, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
