Kentucky junior guard Maci Morris was among the best players in women’s college basketball this season and her name finished near the top in one statistical category.

Entering Friday night’s Final Four matchup between Connecticut and Notre Dame, Morris led the nation in three-point percentage with a 47.5 percent clip. UConn’s Katie Lou Samuelson was close behind at 47.4 percent and after a 4-of-8 performance from deep in the Huskies loss, the UConn junior finishes the season with a 48.4 percent mark from three-point range.

If the Wildcats could have played postseason basketball, Morris would have had a shot to hold onto the top spot. Regardless, the Bell County native turned heads on the national scene this season and will gear up for a final run in Lexington next season.

Morris had a career season for the Wildcats after averaging 17.3 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals while shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 47.5 percent from long range, all career highs for a season. Additionally, she surpassed the 1,000 point mark and will have a full season to add to her 1,209 career points.

After her first two seasons at Kentucky, Morris earned the reputation as a sharpshooter but proved there is more to her game after an outstanding junior season, one that saw her play through multiple injuries. She ended the year by reaching double figures in 13 consecutive games, including a streak of seven straight games with 20+ points that was snapped after a 13-point game vs. Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament. In all, Morris scored in double figures in every game she played in this season.

Morris’ strong season led to her being named to the All-SEC Second Team, the second All-SEC honor of her career after she was named to the All-Freshman team in 2016.
