Kentucky softball is One Win Away from Women’s College World Series

The No. 16 Kentucky Softball team will look to punch their ticket to the Women’s College World Series tonight in Eugene, (OR.).

The Wildcats topped No. 1 Oregon 9-6 in game one of the Super Regionals on Thursday behind two home runs and five RBI from Abbey Cheek. The junior third baseman sent a three run blast over the wall in the fourth inning and a two run shot in the sixth. Kentucky also got a lift from Alex Martens, who put the Cats on the board with a three run home run in the top of the first.

Kentucky seems poised to avenge last years season ending loss in Eugene. The Wildcats are steam rolling through the postseason, outscoring opponents 37-7 through four games.

Pitching has also been solid for Kentucky. Head coach Rachel Lawson used three pitchers to pick up the game one win. Senior Erin Rethlake got the start in the circle before giving way to freshman Grace Baalman and sophomore Autumn Humes to close things out.

The second game of the best-of-three series is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET. Friday night on ESPN2. Mark Neely and Danielle Lawrie will be on the call. So, grab a cup of coffee and stay up to cheer on the Kentucky softball team in the Super Regionals.
