Kentucky had another excellent day at the free throw line in the win vs. Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena last Saturday.

The Wildcats connected on 22-of-25 attempts vs. the Volunteers, an 88 percent clip for the game. It was UK’s fifth straight game shooting 80 percent or better from the line, a stretch where they’ve shot 85.3 percent.

In the two wins vs. Mississippi State and Tennessee last week, Kentucky was a combined 53-of-61 from the line for 86.8 percent. It’s the free throw shooting late in games that is most impressive.

Kentucky was 10-of-10 in the final 3:33 at Tennessee and 16-of-16 in the final 2:21 vs. Mississippi State.

If the game is close and Kentucky has a lead late, you have to feel confident in them closing it out at the free throw line. Clutch free throw shooting isn’t something Big Blue Nation is used to seeing under John Calipari at Kentucky, but this team has been excellent.

For the season, when it’s a two possession game (six points or less) with 3:00 to play in regulation or overtime, Kentucky is 83-of-97 at the free throw line for 85.6 percent. That statistic will win the Wildcats a lot of games.
