Kentucky Basketball Closing in on SEC History

The Kentucky Wildcats are closing in on SEC men’s basketball history.

Kentucky’s 71-59 victory vs. the Missouri Tigers at Rupp Arena last Saturday was the 998th SEC regular season victory in program history. The Wildcats need two victories to become the first SEC program to reach 1,000 regular season wins in league play.

The next closest team to 1,000 wins in SEC regular season play is the Alabama Crimson Tide with 791 victories.

If Kentucky picks up a win vs. Georgia on Tuesday, the Wildcats would have the opportunity to reach 1,000 wins at Rupp Arena on Saturday vs. the Crimson Tide.

SEC regular season victories date back to the 1933 season. Georgia, LSU and Vanderbilt have been playing in the SEC for 88 years while Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Tennessee have been participating for 87 years.
