Kentucky senior Josh Allen was awarded the 2018 Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Monday night at the Charlotte Convention Center.

The Nagurski Trophy is given to the best defensive player in college football. Allen is the first Kentucky player to win a major award since Bob Gain won the Outland Trophy in 1950.

Allen, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound linebacker, was selected from a list of finalists that included Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, Alabama nose guard Quinnen Williams, and LSU safety Grant Delpit.

Earlier on Monday, Allen was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press.
