Joe Lunardi’s Latest Projections Send Kentucky to the South Region

Joe Lunardi has once again updated his NCAA tournament projections and the Wildcats are holding serve as a No. 5 seed.

Kentucky’s projected first-round opponent has changed, as Lunardi projects that the 24th ranked Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders will be the dreaded 5/12 matchup for Kentucky. If the Wildcats win that, they will have a rematch with either Vermont or West Virginia in the second round, two teams the Wildcats defeated during the regular season.

While Lunardi still has Kentucky projected to Boise for the first and second rounds, he did move the Wildcats to the South Region, where Atlanta would be the host of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8.

The top three seeds in the latest projections are Virginia No. 1, Purdue No. 2, and Tennessee No. 3. All I can say is Kentucky needs to keep winning to get away from any possible 5/12 matchups. It’s not out of the question that John Calipari’s club can reach a No. 3 seed if they win out, especially the way higher seeded teams continue to fall.

Stay tuned, I’m sure Joey Brackets will release another update on Thursday.
