Jaxson Hayes commits to Texas

2018 forward Jaxson Hayes announced today that he plans to play college basketball at the University of Texas. The announcement was made at his high school of Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, OH.

Hayes, who has never started a game of high school basketball, recently picked up an offer from Kentucky and John Calipari. It was a bit of a surprise that Calipari offered a three-star prospect that has never started a game in his high school career.

The timing of his announcement was fresh off the heels of his UK offer and that led to many believing the Cats could be the pick. However, Texas and other schools had invested so much more time recruiting him. Hayes chose Texas over Butler, Georgetown, Kentucky, and Xavier. The only two schools he visited were Texas and Xavier.

I’m sure Hayes has potential to develop into a solid player at the collegiate level and Calipari must have liked something about him to extend an offer. I don’t really chalk this one up as a loss for Cal because there wasn’t much time spent recruiting him. There are still big names in the 2018 class.
