John Calipari is in a bit of a funk when it comes to landing top five prospects but that could change with the recruitment of five-star forward James Wiseman. 247Sports has updated their rankings for the 2019 class, moving Wiseman to No. 1 overall.
The 6-11 Wiseman is considered a Kentucky lean with the Wildcats owning all predictions in his 247Sports Crystal Ball. He was the first player for 2019 to pick up a scholarship offer and it’s not entirely out of the question that he reclassifies to the 2018 class.
Kentucky’s 2018 class is a good one but it’s missing a big man. The class is made up of three five-star guards, Immanuel Quickley, Keldon Johnson, and sharpshooter Tyler Herro.
Reports are that Wiseman will remain in the 2019 class but I’ve also heard that it’s still likely he joins the 2018 class. That’s a decision that could last until the end of summer, similar to what Marvin Bagley did with Duke.
With the possible return of Nick Richards, Sacha Killeya-Jones, and Tai Wynard, it will be interesting to watch Wiseman’s recruitment play out. Regardless, if it’s the 2018 class or 2019, I think Wiseman is a future Wildcat.
