Jalen Lecque Reminds John Calipari of a Former Wildcat Point Guard

Kentucky coach John Calipari is all hands on deck at the first session of the Nike EYBL this weekend.

Calipari, along with the entire UK staff, is on hand to evaluate targets for 2019, and some that could reclassify to join the Wildcats next season. While things are still up in the air with Quade Green, Calipari is making sure he has options to fill open spots in the back court next season.

One guard Calipari has targeted is five-star point guard Jalen Lecque, who is ranked the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2019 class by the 247Sports Composite. He made his Nike EYBL debut last night in front of Calipari.

This is only an evaluation period for college coaches and they can’t have any contact with recruits. After the game, Lecque spoke with Chris Fisher of 247Sports about his in-home visit with Calipari from last weekend.

“He said he likes my game and he’ll be watching my game real closely and that he’ll be recruiting me,” said Lecque. “They like my game as a John Wall type. I’m always aggressive and always have that chip on my shoulder.”

As for a timetable to make a decision about a reclassification, Lecque told Fisher that he would likely decide after the July evaluation period. The Peach Jam is the final tournament of the summer, which runs from July 11-15 in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Lecque’s explosiveness will remind you of Wall in the video below.
