Garrett “Juice” Johnson Closing in on 2,000 Career Receiving Yards

Craig Yeast, Keenan Burton, and Derek Abney are the only receivers to ever surpass 2,000 receiving yards for a career at the University of Kentucky. Senior wide receiver Garrett “Juice” Johnson looks to add his name to the list very soon.

Johnson, a native of Winter Garden, Fla., has 1,919 career receiving yards. The UK wideout needs 81 yards to become only the fourth player in program history to achieve the 2,000 receiving yard mark for a career.

Through seven games this season, Johnson is averaging 52.7 yards receiving per game. If he stays on that pace, he could reach the mark within the next two games.

On the season, Johnson has totaled 32 catches for 369 yards and 2 touchdowns. His longest catch of the season went for a touchdown vs. Missouri, as he hauled in a 64-yard touchdown reception from Stephen Johnson. Only once this season has he surpassed 100 yards in a game, a 111-yard performance vs. Missouri.

Johnson has quietly put together one of the best-receiving careers in UK history. In addition to 1,919 yards, he has hauled in 139 catches, which ranks seventh in program history. The UK senior needs six catches to pass Dicky Lyons Jr. and Randall Cobb, to move into fifth in career receptions. Johnson also has 11 career receiving touchdowns, needing just two to move into a tie for ninth in program history.

The 5-11 senior will have his name all over the UK record book, including some of the best single-game performances. Johnson’s 164-yard performance vs. Louisville and 160-yard game vs. Auburn rank as the ninth and tenth best single-game performances in program history. The only other UK receiver to make that list twice was Craig Yeast, the all-time leading receiver in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.

Regardless of where he finishes, #9 will go down as one of the best to ever line up at receiver. Let’s hope he stays healthy and finishes his career on a high note.
