The Commission on College Basketball Calls for NCAA to Take More Control

The Commission on college basketball called for a number of changes to be made that benefit the student athlete. Overall, they want the NCAA to take more control in order to solve problems that surround the sport.

Among those changes, the Commission calls for allowing players to return to school if they go undrafted, lifetime ban for coaches that cheat, do away with the one-and-done rule, and give high school players more options when it comes to making a decision about their future.

The commission is led by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Earlier this morning, they released a 60 page report about what needs to be done to improve the sport. This was set into motion after the FBI scandal became public seven months ago.

The commission also doesn’t think that college athletes should be paid, claiming that it’s not the answer to solving problems in the sport.

“The goal should not be to turn college basketball into another professional league.”

The group also believes that the one-and-done ruie should come to an end and high school athletes should have more options when it comes to making a decision.

“One and done has to go one way or another,” Rice said to the AP.

Another big suggestion made is that should the NCAA should certify agents and allow them to have more involvement with players beginning in high school and during the college career.

The report also went into detail about what should be done for coaches who cheat and they also expressed ideas about how to clean up the scene around AAU and summer leagues.
