Former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie received a desperately needed kidney transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester on Tuesday. So far, everything seems to have gone well and he has been up walking around.

Gillispie’s donor, Ericka Downey, tweeted a picture of herself yesterday with the caption “Out of surgery. Everything went great.”

Today, she provided an update on both herself and Coach Gillispie. She posted the following message to her Twitter account and other than soreness, she is doing well and Gillispie’s new kidney is working.

Downey will able to check out of the Mayo Clinic on Thursday but is expected to hang around until the weekend. As for Gillispie, he will spend at least three weeks in the hospital to make sure his body doesn’t reject his new kidney.
