Benny Snell Named Semifinalist for Doak Walker Award

Kentucky junior running back Benny Snell Jr. has been named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award.

 

The Doak Walker Award is awarded to the best running back in college football. Three finalists will be announced on November 19th and the winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards in Atlanta Thursday, December 6th on ESPN.

 



 

Snell, a native of Westerville, OH., has rushed for 1,089 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while leading the Wildcats to a 7-3 (5-3 SEC) record. He ranks second in the SEC in rushing and 15th nationally, averaging 108.9 yards per game. Additionally, Snell ranks second in the SEC in all-purpose yards (119.4) and fourth in rushing touchdowns (10).

 

Snell already owns the UK career record for rushing touchdowns (42) and touchdowns (42). Earlier this season, he became the first player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards three times.

 

Snell and the Wildcats will be in action on Saturday vs. Middle Tennessee State at Kroger Field. Kick-off is at noon ET. on the SEC Network Alternate channel.
