Autumn Humes Throws No-Hitter in First Career Start

It didn’t take long for Kentucky pitcher Autumn Humes to have her name be known around the Big Blue Nation. The sophomore right-hander threw a no-hitter in her first career start as a Wildcat, going the distance vs. North Dakota State in a 2-0 win.

Humes is a transfer from Harding University, where she won the Division II National Softball Freshman of the Year award after going 33-3 with a 1.19 ERA in 49 games.

The Wildcats took a while to provide run support but they finally crossed the plate in the top of the 6th inning when Erin Rethlake scored on a throwing error. One run would have been enough for Humes but Lauren Johnson singled home Brooklin Hinz in the top of the 7th to add an insurance run.

Humes faced 21 batters, striking out three of them while only walking two. The most impressive thing about her performance was she only needed 75 pitches to pick up the no-hitter.

If that’s her first start, imagine what the rest of her three-year UK career will be like.
